FOODGaP in Rome: A Bridge Between History and Future for Mediterranean Food Sustainability

Partners from Italy, Greece, Turkey, Tunisia, and Lebanon will join in rome from 5-7 MAy to rethink food governance, tackling issues such as poverty and the shortening of supply chains, while empowering citizens to actively shape their own food future. Three days of sharing ideas and strengthening cooperation. FOODGaP is taking shape.

On 18 March, CIHEAM Bari, EPLO, and the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital held the fourth FOODGaP webinar, bringing together voices from municipal governance, international organizations, academia, and civil society to examine food systems through the lens of justice, inclusion, and resilience.

On 18 February 2026, CIHEAM Bari hosted the third webinar of the FOODGaP Capacity Building Programme, bringing together experts, cities and practitioners to discuss circular approaches to food loss and waste. Through policy insights and practical experiences—from behavioural change in school canteens to food recovery hubs and municipal circular economy models—the session explored how cities can accelerate the transition toward sustainable and inclusive food systems.

Strengthening food policy through multilevel governance and participation in the FOODGaP project

Held on 4 February 2026 and led by the EPLO Institute for Sustainable Development, the second FOODGaP peer-learning webinar explored how effective food policies depend on strong governance systems, vertical coordination across levels, and meaningful participation. Drawing on experiences from international, metropolitan and local contexts, speakers highlighted the importance of clear mandates, structured collaboration and institutional continuity to deliver more coherent, inclusive and sustainable urban food systems.
