About – Food Governance and Policies at local level

Recent key conferences, including “Food Policies in Mediterranean Cities” in Naples, the “Second United Nations Summit on Sustainable Food Systems” in Rome, and “Food Security and Sustainability: Cooperating to Grow” in Rimini (all in 2023), have emphasized critical action points: Developing the technical and political capacity of staff in small and medium-sized cities to create and implement effective local food policies; integrating policies to bridge urban-rural gaps and ensure cohesive governance; engaging local communities in the decision-making process, facilitating the implementation of local food policies through cooperation among Mediterranean cities. The project will address these points by piloting four participatory governance models in Tyre (Lebanon), Mersin (Türkiye), Rome (Italy), and Houmt Souk (Tunisia). This will involve at least 50 local stakeholders, the co-design and testing of four local food policies, and the implementation of one key action, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the participatory governance models piloted.
