About – Mediterranean joint Water management and conservation Sustainable solutions

WISEMED addresses the critical challenge of water scarcity in Mediterranean agriculture, where inefficient water management threatens environmental sustainability and food security. The region suffers from severe water stress, with over 180 million water-poor people; particularly in Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) countries, which hold only 1.4% of global freshwater but host 6.3% of the world’s population. Involving partners from Italy, Jordan, Tunisia, Spain, and Lebanon, the WISMED project promotes sustainable water management through transnational cooperation, piloting eco-friendly irrigation solutions, building local capacities, and fostering inclusive planning and public-private cooperation.
