In the EU countries, the waste for electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) is managed within a strict legislative framework, however, only one third of the WEEE produced is collected separately and destined for appropriate treatment. Furthermore, countries not belonging to EU territories have a less restrictive WEEE waste management legislation, contributing to improver disposal and treatment methods of discarded electrical equipment.
The WEEEVALUE project aims to promote local and regional policies for better e-waste management, to reduce e-waste environmental damage in the selected areas. The idea is to close the loop of e-waste, by reinforcing both the producer side and the demand side, working to create a better collecting system throughout the Mediterranean region, especially to solve disparities between territories in this matter, while promoting eco-businesses to convert the waste into a resource.
