On March 25th, a well-attended meeting organised by the lead partner EXO with the support of GAL LUCUS, a Local Action Group supporting rural development in Basilicata, was held at the GAL headquarters in Genzano di Lucania, as part of the CLUSTERATLAS4MED project.

The initiative aims to launch a shared pathway for promoting sustainable rural tourism and establishing the first trans-Mediterranean cluster dedicated to the sector.

The event, brought together several local administrators, rural tourism entrepreneurs, representatives from schools, associations, and territorial stakeholders. This participation confirms the growing focus on a development model capable of enhancing inland areas through networks, skills, innovation, and active involvement.

During the meeting, the CLUSTERATLAS4MED project was presented, along with its objectives, the international dimension of the partnership, and the opportunities it offers to the territories involved. Basilicata was identified as a strategic hub in a Euro-Mediterranean network that includes Italy, Malta, Spain, Greece, Egypt, Tunisia, and Turkey, with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises and promoting new tools for sustainable, innovative, and integrated rural tourism.

A central moment of the morning was the launch of the idea to establish a Lucanian Rural Tourism Cluster, envisioned as a stable aggregation of public and private actors capable of pooling resources, projects, services, and expertise. The proposal sparked great interest, engagement, and enthusiasm, opening a concrete discussion on the potential for Basilicata to act as a territorial “spoke” connected to the broader Mediterranean meta-cluster currently under development.

Particular attention was also given to the operational launch of the Rural Living Labs — collaborative co-creation spaces where administrations, operators, businesses, schools, and local communities can contribute to designing and testing services, digital tools, and innovative solutions to strengthen rural tourism offerings and valorize the unique assets of the territories.

The meeting held in Genzano di Lucania thus represented a first concrete and shared step toward building a regional network capable of interacting with the Euro-Mediterranean context, highlighting a strong local willingness to work together toward a common development vision. The level of participation and quality of discussions confirmed that Basilicata has the energy, skills, and sensitivity ready to converge into a structured pathway for the rural tourism of the future.
