MEDWISE engaged with the Greater Amman Municipality in Jordan to enhance strategic coordination and exchange technical insights and data.
The MEDWISE Project partner in Jordan, EDAMA, held a coordination meeting with representatives of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) (Regions and Environment Sector, Environmental Studies Department), with the aim of strengthening collaborative frameworks in support of the transition towards a circular and resource-efficient economy.
The discussions focused on the ongoing efforts of the MEDWISE Project to systematically map and analyze existing initiatives, digital platforms, and operational practices related to decentralized composting and industrial symbiosis in Jordan. This process aims to establish a structured baseline to identify scalable solutions, assess operational gaps, and explore opportunities for development and innovation.
During the meeting, an overview was presented on key municipal initiatives and programs implemented by GAM in the field of waste management, data management practices, and operational workflows. Eng. Basem Hawamdeh, Director of the Environmental Studies Department, emphasized the importance of aligning efforts and enhancing data integration and indicators to support evidence-based decision-making and to advance sustainable waste management solutions in line with circular economy objectives.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of data and technical information exchange, as well as maintaining continuous communication and coordination among relevant stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and comprehensiveness of project outputs.
GAM reaffirmed that, through its institutional role and partnerships with various stakeholders, it remains committed to its developmental mandate by providing support and actively contributing to the achievement of environmental sustainability and the advancement of circular economy practices and initiatives in alignment with national priorities. GAM expressed its readiness to formalize cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the implementation of MEDWISE project. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to sustained collaboration, underscoring the importance of ongoing coordination, mutual support, and the pursuit of long-term, impactful outcomes.
