Rome, 19 February 2026 – The National Co-Design Workshop of the WISEMED – MEDiterranean joint Water management and conservatIon SustainablE solutions project, funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, was held at ITABIA – Italian Biomass Association (Via Venafro, 5, Rome).

During the event, three innovative solutions for sustainable water management in Mediterranean agriculture were presented:

  1. Open Source Device for Farmers
CREA-IT presented a device providing recommendations on irrigation volume and scheduling, highlighting financial benefits, technical feasibility, scalability, and environmental impact.
  2. Flexible Water Storage Tanks System
Tested within the Watermellon (EU-PRIMA) project, CREA-IT showcased the technical-economic feasibility, scalability across Mediterranean countries, and environmental impact of the system.
  3. Mixing Conventional and Non-Conventional Water Using Low-Cost Sensors
ICU demonstrated how this system optimizes water use, providing financial and environmental benefits while ensuring sustainability and scalability.

The workshop included Q&A sessions and an open discussion with sector experts, during which the advantages, challenges and benefits of the presented solutions for farmers and other stakeholders were assessed.

The event provided an important opportunity to share knowledge and experiences among Italian stakeholders (researchers, farmers, NGOs, public institutions, and universities…), collect feedback and promote innovative and sustainable solutions for water management in agriculture.
