SHARE4MED officially launched its activities with a hybrid kick-off meeting held in Oran(Algeria) bringing together project representatives both on site and remotely. The event marked the formal start of the initiative co-funded by the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, which aims to strengthen institutional capacity among Mediterranean municipalities in planning and implementing environmental sustainability actions, in line with the EU Mission Restore our Oceans and Waters by 2030.

Duringthe kick-off meeting, the project partnership presented the overall framework of SHARE4MED,outlining its objectives, expected results, and key activities. Partners illustrated their respective roles, with a focus on governance enhancement, environmental data integration, and local-level engagement to support more effective and coordinated coastal management across the Mediterranean.

Representatives from theInterreg NEXT MED Joint Technical Secretariat also participated, providing guidance on financial management, communication requirements, and programme compliance. Their contribution ensured a shared understanding of operational standards and reinforced coordination among all actors involved. The meeting served as a crucial moment to align priorities, clarify responsibilities, and lay the ground work for effective cooperation throughout the project simplementation.

Building on this launch phase, SHARE4MED further strengthened its international engagement by organizing a joint workshop with GREENMEDPORTS on December2, 2025, within the framework of the International Conference on EnergyTransitionandDigitalisationin the Maritime Sector (ICEDTMS 2025), hosted by theUniversity of Oran (USTO-MB), Algeria. The conference brought together researchers, industry representatives, and Mediterranean stakeholders to address key topics such as green shipping, alternative fuels, digitalisation, and net-zero targets, with selected papers published in Chemical Engineering Transactions(SCOPUS/Scholarindexed).

The joint workshop highlighted the synergies between SHARE4MED and GREENMEDPORTS,focusing on the integration of sustainable coastal governance with green and decarbonised port operations.Discussions explored howSHARE4MEDs work on coastal habitat restoration, governance frameworks, and environmental monitoring could alignwith GREENMEDPORTS initiatives on green logistics, port decarbonisation, and the implementationof the Carbon Footprint Platform and Green Port certification across the Mediterranean.

Technical and strategic exchanges also addressed opportunities for cross-projectcoordination,examining how SHARE4MEDs Governance Dashboard and data-driven tools could complement GREENMEDPORTS environmental and carbon reporting systems, offering a more integrated perspective on coastal and maritime sustainability.

Through its kick-off meeting and participation in ICEDTMS 2025, SHARE4MEDhas entered its first operational phase with a strong emphasis on collaboration, knowledge exchange, and evidence-based approaches, reinforcing its commitment to more resilient, sustainable, and well-governed Mediterranean coastal and maritime systems.
