SHARE4MED participated in Sun&Blue Congress 2025, held on November 19–20 in Almería, one of Europe’s leading platforms for dialogue on sustainable tourism and the blue economy. The third edition of the Congress brought together stakeholders from 37 countries, hosting a strong international programme of side events and confirming its role as a key meeting point for Mediterranean and European cooperation.
Within this high-level institutional and policy-oriented context, SHARE4MED engaged in discussions addressing the future of blue tourism, environmental sustainability, and coastal governance. The Congress gathered major European institutions and initiatives, including Interreg NEXT MED, the WestMED Initiative and European Commission services, fostering exchanges on policy alignment, data-driven decision-making and integrated approaches to coastal and marine sustainability.
Key themes explored during the Congress—such as shared governance of coastal destinations, environmental data exchange, digital transition and territorial resilience—closely resonate with SHARE4MED’s objectives. The project contributes to these debates by strengthening institutional capacity at municipal level, supporting evidence-based planning and encouraging cross-border cooperation for the sustainable management of coastal areas, in line with the EU Mission Restore our Oceans and Waters by 2030.
Sun&Blue Congress 2025 also highlighted the importance of common indicators, interoperable data platforms and multilevel governance frameworks to measure and improve sustainability in tourism-dependent coastal regions. These discussions reinforced the relevance of SHARE4MED’s work on governance tools and shared transition pathways, designed to support local authorities across the Mediterranean basin.
Participation in Sun&Blue Congress 2025 provided SHARE4MED with a valuable opportunity to connect with European institutions, research bodies and regional initiatives, contributing to a collective reflection on how sustainability, digitalisation and cooperation can strengthen blue tourism and coastal governance across the Mediterranean.
