Joseph Bechara, wildfire management expert at Lebanon Reforestation Initiative and SIMMER Project Manager, had an interview on Voix du Liban, on 24th March 2026, highlighting that wildfire management goes beyond firefighting. It includes prevention, ecosystem restoration, pollution control, and strong coordination among stakeholders such as Civil Defense, ministries, municipalities, and local communities.
Mr. Bechara, introduced the EU-funded project called SIMMER, which brings together six Mediterranean countries to enhance cooperation, share knowledge, and develop joint solutions for wildfire preparedness. He emphasized LRI’s role in raising awareness and promoting prevention, alongside the importance of strengthening Civil Defense capacities.
Joseph Bechara concluded by inviting stakeholders and experts to contribute insights and resources to support collective efforts in wildfire risk reduction.

خلال مقابلته على إذاعة صوت لبنان، شدّد جوزيف، خبير إدارة حرائق الغابات في جمعية التحريج في لبنان ومدير مشروع SIMMER، على أن إدارة الحرائق لا تقتصر على إطفائها، بل تشمل الوقاية، استعادة التوازن البيئي، الحد من التلوث، وتعزيز التنسيق بين الدفاع المدني، الوزارات، البلديات والمجتمع.
كما أشار إلى دور LRI في التوعية وأهمية دعم قدرات الدفاع المدني، وتحدث عن مشروع SIMMER الممول من الاتحاد الأوروبي، والذي يجمع ست دول لتعزيز التعاون وتبادل الخبرات.
