About – Towards the decarbonization of tile industry through an innovative semi-wet granulated technology for porcelain tiles

The Mediterranean hosts four of the top ten global ceramic tile producers – Spain, Italy, Türkiye, and Egypt – making the region a global hub for tile manufacturing. However, the traditional production process is highly energy – and resource-intensive. INNOVATILE brings together partners from Spain, Türkiye, Italy, Cyprus, Tunisia, and Egypt to scale up an innovative semi-wet granulation technology that significantly reduces energy use, raw material consumption, water usage, and greenhouse gas emissions. By promoting the use of local secondary raw materials and reducing reliance on critical resources, like feldspar (a common raw material used in glassmaking and ceramics), the project supports a more sustainable and competitive ceramics industry across the Mediterranean.
