What will the future of Interreg look like in the post 2027 perspective? How can we make it better and simpler? These are some of the questions discussed during Managing Authority participated in the conference ‘Interreg: developing a vision for the future’ which took place in Šibenik, Croatia on 14 of May.

The Managing Authority participated in the conference ‘Interreg: developing a vision for the future’ which took place in Šibenik, Croatia, on 14th of May as part of the 9th annual forum of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR).

The event, organised by the European Committee of the Regions, aimed to take stock of experiences across all strands of Interreg – cross-border (Interreg A), transnational (Interreg B), interregional (Interreg C) and outermost regions’ cooperation (Interreg D) – and help develop a vision for post-2027.

In a panel discussion moderated by Interact and contributed by representatives of Interreg Italy-Austria, Interreg Europe and Interreg Madeira-Açores-Canarias (MAC) programmes, Mr. Martin Heibel – communication manager of Interreg NEXT MED Programme – highlighted the value-added of Interreg for the Mediterranean region, an area characterized by complex geopolitical challenges. “Interreg allows to efficiently to tackle a variety of shared issues at Mediterranean level through collaborative efforts that would normally would not happen.”

Looking at the future, Mr. Heibel insisted on the importance to continue enhancing cooperation with Mediterranean Partner Countries and keep some flexibility in implementation mechanisms.

Interreg NEXT MED would like to thank Interact and the European Committee of the Regions for their invitation to this important event.
