Under the patronage of Prof. Abeer Ahmed Mounir, President of the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF), and Prof. Ola Abdel Wahab, Director of the Institute’s Mediterranean Sea and Northern Lakes Branch, and Prof. Gehan Al-Zoqm, Head of Marine Environment Division, the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries – Alexandria Branch organized a specialized workshop on the project “Mediterranean Joint Initiative for Climate Adaptation and Risk Prevention (MedJICARP)”, within the framework of the project’s Work Package 2 (WP2).
The workshop commenced with a comprehensive presentation delivered by Prof. Mohamed Said, the project’s Principal Investigator, outlining the project’s objectives, key activities, and expected results, as well as its vital role in supporting Mediterranean countries’ efforts to enhance climate change adaptation and reduce associated risks, particularly in coastal and marine areas.
During the workshop sessions, Prof. Tarek El-Gezairy delivered a detailed presentation on the five work packages upon which the project is based, explaining their integration to ensure the effective and efficient achievement of the project’s objectives, and highlighting the linkage between the initiative’s scientific and practical aspects in support of decision-makers and stakeholders concerned with risk management and climate adaptation.
The workshop witnessed wide participation from researchers and specialists of the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, in addition to researchers from Egyptian universities and relevant marine and environmental institutions. This strong engagement reflects the growing interest in climate change–related issues and their impacts on the marine environment, and underscores NIOF’s pivotal role in supporting scientific research, capacity building, and the enhancement of regional and international cooperation in the fields of climate adaptation and risk prevention, stemming from its firm belief that sound scientific knowledge is the cornerstone of a safer and more sustainable future for the Mediterranean region.
