The BERC delegation included Prof. Mohammed Saleem Shtayeh, Director of BERC and Project Coordinator; Dr. Rana Jamous, Head of the Biodiversity and Biotechnology Research Unit and Project Manager; and researcher Ms. Salam Abu Zaitoun, a member of the project’s scientific team. The delegation was received at An-Najah National University by Prof. Munqez Shtaya, Director of Scientific Centers, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and the University’s Project Director, along with Prof. Nidal Jaradat, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and a project team member at the University.
During the meeting, both parties discussed mechanisms for cooperation in implementing the project’s research and applied activities within a broader framework aimed at enhancing coordination between the Center and the University. Discussions covered several key areas, including:
• Selection of priority local medicinal and aromatic plants.
• Methods for extracting essential oils and improving their efficiency.
• Identification of target agricultural pests and diseases within the project scope.
• Establishing the basis for collaboration in applied studies, laboratory analyses, and field trials.
The visit included a field tour of the laboratories at the Faculty of Pharmacy, where the BERC team was briefed on the available research facilities. Both sides expressed their readiness to leverage this scientific infrastructure to support joint project activities and to enhance scientific and applied outputs.
This visit reflects the commitment of both institutions to strengthening research cooperation in the field of eco-friendly nano-biopesticides within a comprehensive vision aimed at supporting farmers, protecting human and environmental health, and promoting sustainable agricultural development in Palestine and the Mediterranean region.
The two parties also emphasized the importance of continuous communication and coordination between BERC and An-Najah National University—alongside project partners in Tunisia, Italy, and Greece—to ensure the successful implementation of the project and the achievement of its shared objectives.
