On 18 March 2026, an open health day was organised at the intermediate care centre in Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen prevention and health promotion within primary healthcare services.

The initiative contributes to CAREMED’s broader objective of improving the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), with a particular focus on early screening, health education, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

The CAREMED Project – Community-based Approach for Resilient Mediterranean Health, is co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme and led by the Meyer University Hospital.

The event was held under the auspices of the Regional Director of Health of Sidi Bouzid and involved the Director of Organization and Programming of Primary Healthcare Activities at the Direction des Soins de Santé de Base (DSSB), CAREMED project partner, together with representatives from the Regional Health Directorate and the Primary Healthcare Grouping. The DSSB plays a key role in supporting community-based healthcare actions in Tunisia within the CAREMED framework .

The programme included diabetes and blood pressure screening, health awareness and education activities, and smoking cessation support workshops.

By bringing preventive services closer to the population, the initiative contributed to raising awareness of risk factors and promoting early detection of chronic diseases. This activity represents a concrete step towards strengthening community-based approaches and supporting more inclusive and effective primary healthcare services in Tunisia.
