The CAREMED project – Community-Based Approach for Resilient Mediterranean Health – is implemented by a multidisciplinary partnership bringing together public health authorities, academic institutions, and international cooperation actors from across the Mediterranean region. This consortium combines policy-level engagement, research capacity, and field experience to strengthen community-based and resilient health systems.
Global Health Center – Meyer University Hospital (Italy)
Lead Partner
The Global Health Center (CSG) of Meyer University Hospital acts as Lead Partner of the CAREMED project. CSG is the coordination hub for the Tuscany Region’s International Health Cooperation and Migrants’ Health and operates within the public health system and public university network as a department of Meyer University Hospital (Florence).
With over twenty years of experience in international health cooperation, CSG provides technical and institutional support to public health systems, with a strong focus on primary health care, prevention and health promotion, training of health professionals, and research and innovation in the health sector. Its thematic expertise includes non-communicable diseases as well as women’s and children’s health, addressed through integrated and community-based approaches.
Within CAREMED, CSG ensures overall project coordination, strategic guidance, and quality assurance, working in close collaboration with the project partners.
Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria – ICU (Italy)
ICU is a non-governmental organization with long-standing experience in international cooperation and development projects, particularly in the health sector. ICU has strong expertise in project management, field coordination, and capacity building in complex and multi-country settings.
Within CAREMED, ICU supports the Lead Partner in project management and operational implementation, contributing to stakeholder engagement, coordination with partners, and the effective execution of activities across countries.
Direction des Soins de Santé de Base – DSSB (Tunisia)
The Direction des Soins de Santé de Base (DSSB) is a central department of the Tunisian Ministry of Health responsible for the organization, regulation, and supervision of primary health care services nationwide. DSSB plays a key role in defining policies and strategies related to prevention, community health, and primary care.
As a CAREMED partner, DSSB contributes its institutional mandate, policy expertise, and extensive experience in managing national primary health care networks, ensuring strong alignment between project activities and national health priorities.
Lebanese University (Lebanon)
The Lebanese University is the only public university in Lebanon and a major academic institution in the country, with a strong role in education, research, and public service. Through its faculties and research centers, it actively contributes to public health research, training, and collaboration with national health authorities.
Within CAREMED, the Lebanese University provides academic expertise and research capacity, supporting evidence-based approaches, capacity building, and the adaptation of community-based health models to the Lebanese context.
Izmir Provincial Directorate of Health (Turkey)
The Izmir Provincial Directorate of Health is the regional authority responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising healthcare services in the Izmir province. It oversees hospitals, primary care centers, and public health programs, ensuring access to quality health services for the population.
As a CAREMED partner, the Directorate brings strong operational experience and direct access to health facilities and professionals, playing a key role in piloting and implementing community-based interventions at the local level.
