On 24 March, partners and associated organisations of the CAREMED project, funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, met online for the Transnational Thematic Committee (TTC), marking an important step in the project’s implementation phase.
The meeting brought together representatives from all partner countries to ensure coordination and alignment, while advancing the co-development of key project activities, with a particular focus on upcoming training programmes.
A central topic of discussion was the Active Patient training model, presented by Gerencia de Atención Primaria (GAPM). The model follows a two-step approach: initially training primary healthcare professionals, and subsequently involving patients as peer educators. Partners contributed to refining the training content and adapting it to their respective national contexts.
Participants also worked on aligning common tools for assessing chronic care systems, integrating additional components related to telemedicine and Point-of-Care Testing (POCT), in line with ongoing digital developments across partner countries.
In parallel, discussions on medication safety contributed to shaping future training activities aimed at improving clinical practices in chronic disease management, in accordance with international standards.
The exchange further provided an opportunity to share experiences and challenges related to the prevention and early diagnosis of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), highlighting the importance of context-specific approaches.
In the coming months, bilateral meetings will be organised to finalise the training programme content and logistics, as well as to review assessment results, in preparation for the next Transnational Thematic Committee meeting scheduled for May.
Overall, the meeting represented a key milestone in strengthening coordination among partners, consolidating a shared vision, and advancing towards more resilient, integrated and patient-centred primary healthcare systems across the Mediterranean region.
