A new chapter for resilient, community-centered healthcare in the Mediterranean officially begins as The Global Health Center of Meyer University Hospital is hosting the CAREMED – Community-based Approach for Resilient Mediterranean Health Kick-off Meeting. CAREMED is an initiative funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED programme, aimed at strengthening primary healthcare services in Mediterranean countries, with a particular focus on the management of chronic diseases.

Representatives from partner and associate institutions in Italy, Spain, Tunisia, Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan, and Egypt are attending the meeting. The event officially inaugurates the collaboration among the involved teams and is intended to jointly define the planning of project activities.

CAREMED aims to consolidate primary healthcare and enhance the role of local services in the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), promoting patient-centered care models that bring services closer to citizens and encourage active patient participation in the care pathway.

The project includes pilot interventions in 34 primary healthcare centers, joint training activities, and the development of shared operational tools through transnational collaboration among the partners. These actions will contribute to strengthening prevention, care continuity, and the integration of services in the territories involved.

Over the two-day meeting, partners address the main organizational aspects of the project, including operational structure, communication, administrative management, and technical planning. These discussions lay the foundation for a three-year collaboration aimed at reinforcing local healthcare services and promoting innovative approaches to chronic disease management across the Mediterranean region.
