On 28 January 2026, the Direction des Soins de Santé de Base (DSSB), partner of the CAREMED project, participated in the official Interreg NEXT MED Programme launch event in Tunisia, held in Tunis at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Center.
The event was jointly organised by Interreg NEXT MED and Interreg NEXT Italy–Tunisia, in collaboration with the Tunisian Ministry of Economy and Planning and with the support of the INTERREG TESIM NEXT programme. It gathered representatives of Tunisian public institutions and authorities from several sectors, including health, agriculture, higher education, digital technologies and the environment, together with programme bodies and project partners.
The launch event also provided an opportunity to review the results of long-standing cooperation between Tunisia and Interreg programmes, as well as to discuss future perspectives for the 2028–2034 programming period. To date, Tunisia has benefited from approximately EUR 25 million under Interreg NEXT programmes, with additional funding opportunities foreseen for the next cycle.
The growing involvement of Tunisia in the health sector was highlighted by Dr. Sinaa Hadj Amor, Director General of International Cooperation Unit at the Tunisian Ministry of Health, who underlined how this commitment is now entering a new phase with the launch of the CAREMED project. Within this framework, the Ministry of Health, through its department DSSB, contributes as a project partner, supporting actions aimed at strengthening the resilience of the healthcare system by improving community-based care for chronic patients.
With its participation in the launch event, the DSSB reaffirmed its commitment, as a CAREMED partner, to contributing to the objectives of Interreg NEXT MED and to strengthening cooperation across the Mediterranean in the field of public health.
