The preselected projects involve 528 partner organizations from the 15 countries participating in Interreg NEXT MED Programme and correspond to €181 million in EU financial contribution requested.
The Managing Authority is pleased to announce that 79 project proposals have been admitted to step 2 “Strategic Evaluation” of the evaluation process carried out as part of the second call for proposals of the Interreg NEXT MED Programme dedicated green transition projects. The results of the first step of the call evaluation were approved by the Monitoring Committee, the Programme’s decision-making body.
These projects involve 528 partner organizations from the 15 countries* participating in the Programme and correspond to €181 million in EU financial contribution requested. A total of 15 eco-youth projects were selected, a new feature introduced to boost the participation of young people in the Interreg NEXT MED Programme.
The proposals were assessed by two independent external experts and preselected based on their scores, aligning with a budget twice the amount awarded to each of the 9 Specific Objectives addressed by the call.
The second call, which closed on 15 May 2025, received an exceptional response, with a record 814 proposals submitted for a total of €1.9 billion in requested EU contribution, confirming the strong commitment of Mediterranean stakeholders to addressing climate change through collaborative, transnational solutions. In a region warming 20% faster than the global average, the proposals promote innovative pathways for low-carbon development and climate resilience across key areas- from energy efficiency and circular economy to water management, SME decarbonisation, green innovation, green skills, just transition, adpation of heath systems to climate change – with particular attention to engaging young people in climate action.
Pre-selected projects have received an official notification from the Chairperson of the Assessment Board, requesting the submission of the supporting documents for the eligibility verification. The proposals will now undergo further evaluation by representatives of the participating countries.
Final results and the list of awarded projects will be announced starting from first half of May 2026.
