The latest meeting, held on April 27 in Potenza, highlighted key challenges and priorities for the development of rural tourism in the region.

A central issue raised during the discussion was the presence of infrastructural gaps that still limit the growth potential of rural tourism areas. Connectivity, accessibility and service provision remain critical factors that hinder the full valorisation of territories rich in identity and resources.

Alongside this, participants strongly emphasized the need to enhance the skills and capacities of tourism operators. Investing in training and improving planning capabilities is seen as essential to raising the quality standards of the tourism offer and fostering a more balanced and widespread development, benefiting both businesses and local communities.

The meeting also led to a concrete outcome: all participants signed an expression of interest to stay informed and be involved in the establishment phase of the future Lucanian rural tourism cluster, marking an important step towards structured collaboration.

In this context, CLUSTERATLAS4MED will launch its rural living labs in the coming months—community-based laboratories where businesses, public authorities and local communities will work together to design strategies and tools aimed at ensuring truly sustainable tourism development in rural areas.

The ambition is twofold: to support the growth of Basilicata’s rural tourism system and to develop an innovative, replicable model for the wider Euro-Mediterranean area.
