A 24-month research scholarship has been launched by the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design of the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli within the research project “STORM – Integrating Seasonal Thermal Energy Storage in the Mediterranean Region”, co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg NEXT MED Programme.

The research activities will focus on the integrated assessment of solar district heating and cooling systems with seasonal Thermal Energy Storage (TES) in Mediterranean countries. In particular, the research work will involve the preparation GIS maps (considering climate, geology, and energy demands to identify optimal deployment of Mediterranean regions), the dynamic modeling and simulation of pilot systems via Transient System Simulation Tool (TRNSYS), as well as the development of an open-source toolkit for preliminary design of seasonal TES systems.

The project aims to demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of seasonal TES in enhancing energy, environmental and economic performance, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable building sector.
