The Association Ecologique Marine Barbarous joins SHARE4MED as an Associated Partner, bringing hands-on expertise in marine conservation, coastal governance and ecosystem restoration.
Based in Oran, the association plays a key advisory and operational role in supporting sustainable coastal management in Algeria. Within SHARE4MED, it contributes to strengthening governance capacity and raising awareness across Mediterranean municipalities on environmental protection and blue economy challenges.
A central area of involvement is Pilot 1, focused on the design and implementation of artificial reefs aimed at preserving and regenerating fish resources. The association provides technical advice on the study, simulation, and installation of the artificial reef system, ensuring that ecological restoration actions are scientifically grounded and adapted to local marine conditions.
Beyond the pilot activities, the Association supports the broader objective of enhancing green transition and governance capacities among coastal municipalities. This includes contributing to discussions on local sustainability strategies, fostering collaboration between stakeholders, and promoting concrete actions to reduce environmental impact and protect marine biodiversity.
Through its combined advisory and field-based experience, the Association Ecologique Marine Barbarous reinforces SHARE4MED’s mission to translate Mediterranean cooperation into tangible solutions for healthier seas and more resilient coastal communities.
