The HEEFTA project, addresses the urgent need for holistic environmental education in the Mediterranean by integrating interdisciplinary learning, advocacy, and action. Targeting youth in higher education, HEEFTA promotes green and blue upskilling through collaborative networks across six countries; Egypt, Greece, Italy, Spain, Tunisia, and Türkiye, and empowers the next generation to confront environmental challenges as systemic issues, not isolated events.

In this context, and as part of the project’s broader efforts to strengthen social engagement and sustainability leadership, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport  (AASTMT) organized the “She… The Driver of Sustainability” forum on February 12, 2026, at its main headquarters in Abu Qir, Alexandria.

The event, held in cooperation with the National Council for Women and coinciding with International Women’s Day, reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to women’s empowerment and sustainable development. The forum was inaugurated by H.E. Counselor Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women, and gathered distinguished Egyptian women leaders, including:

  • Dr. Jacqueline Azer, Governor of Beheira
  • Ambassador Nabila Makram Abdel Shahid, Head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Alliance for Civil and Development Work and former Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs
  • Prof. Dr. Hind Hanafy, former President of Alexandria University

A special session titled “She Leads in Universities”, organized by the Youth Leaders Foundation and attended by MP Ahmed Fathy, highlighted efforts to empower female university students and foster young women’s leadership on campus.

Alongside the forum, an exhibition showcased innovative projects by women entrepreneurs, supported by the Academy’s Entrepreneurship Center and the National Council for Women, emphasizing successful female-led initiatives in entrepreneurship and innovation.
