Rural tourism (M)SMEs across the Mediterranean are rich in culture, traditions and authentic experiences. Yet many small enterprises struggle to access international markets and remain competitive in an increasingly digital and globalised tourism sector.
The Interreg NEXT MED co-funded project CReSInMed brings together partners from Italy, Greece, Türkiye, Jordan, Tunisia, Spain and Palestine to address these challenges through a structured set of actions combining technical analysis, training, expert support, networking, cluster development and digital innovation.
CReSInMed will first analyse 120 rural tourism SMEs across partner countries. Based on this assessment, 50 selected enterprises will receive dedicated internationalisation adaptation plans aimed at improving strategic positioning, service quality and readiness for foreign markets.
To foster long-term cooperation and sustainability, CReSInMed will develop a Guide and Holistic Operational Plan providing methodologies and tools for the creation of local tourism clusters. Building on this, partners and SMEs will work towards the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a transnational MetaCluster, strengthening cross-border collaboration and shared strategic development.
Selected (M)SMEs will participate in study visits, an international Summit in Türkiye and a major tourism fair to enhance international visibility, networking opportunities and market access.
CReSInMed will design and develop a metaverse platform featuring an interactive map of local attractions and services, virtual meeting spaces for business-to-business cooperation, and integrated tools to improve online promotion. In addition, a Digital Toolbox will include practical solutions such as a booking plugin for accommodation and events, and a chatbot to enhance customer interaction and service efficiency.
By combining technical analysis, structured training, cluster creation, international networking and digital transformation, CReSInMed empowers rural tourism (M)SMEs to expand beyond local markets and contribute to a more resilient, competitive and sustainable tourism ecosystem across the Mediterranean.
