The PLANBEE (Promoting Local Apiary Networks and Bee Entrepreneurial Excellence) project will be officially launched in Jordan through a high-level conference entitled “From Hives to Horizons: Building a Sustainable Bee Economy in Jordan”, to be held on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, from 10:00 to 14:00, in Amman, Jordan.

The conference will take place both in physical presence at the Mövenpick Hotel Amman and online, while it will bring together policymakers, beekeepers, researchers, environmental organisations, entrepreneurs and tourism stakeholders from Jordan and across the Mediterranean to explore how the Bee Economy can support sustainable rural development, biodiversity protection, women’s entrepreneurship and innovative tourism in Jordan and across the Mediterranean.

The opening session will include welcome remarks from Jordanian national authorities and representatives of the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, setting the policy and cooperation context for the project. A dedicated project overview will be delivered by the Project Coordinator and representative of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, presenting PLANBEE’s objectives, activities and expected impact across six Mediterranean countries.

The conference programme will feature expert presentations on the state of beekeeping and honey production in Jordan, followed by a high-level panel discussion addressing three key themes:

  • Flora, climate and biodiversity as drivers of honey quality and branding
  • MED Queens, highlighting the role of female bee entrepreneurs in local Mediterranean communities
  • Apitourism, exploring how HoneyBeeRoutes and community-led experiences can diversify rural income, building on lessons from the MedBEESinessHubs project

The event will conclude with a networking lunch, fostering dialogue and cooperation among stakeholders committed to advancing a resilient and sustainable Bee Economy in Jordan.

The launch conference will be held in English with simultaneous translation into Arabic. More information, including the full agenda and the online link, will be announced soon.

Co-funded 89% by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, PLANBEE has a total budget of EUR 2,807,656, with an EU contribution of EUR 2,498,813.84, while it is implemented by seven partners from Cyprus, Egypt, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine.

There’s no Plan B for the planet — only PLANBEE.
