On 12 December 2025, our Turkish partner EOIM (Edirne Orman İşletme Müdürlüğü), organised a workshop in Edirne, Türkiye, bringing together experts, local communities, and stakeholders to explore practical ways to reduce wildfire risks through nature-based Solutions.
The event created a shared space for dialogue between specialists working on wildfire prevention and local villagers, whose everyday experience of living close to fire-prone landscapes added essential, ground-level perspectives. Discussions focused on both the challenges and opportunities associated with applying nature- based approaches to real-world conditions.
Community members actively contributed by sharing their observations, traditional knowledge, and practical recommendations, enriching the exchange and highlighting the importance of local involvement in wildfire risk management. Their input reinforced the idea that effective solutions must be rooted not only in science, but also in community engagement and local know-how.
The workshop encouraged open discussion, collective learning, and mutual understanding, strengthening the connection between technical expertise and everyday experience. It also reflected the broader MedFireWise ambition to connect people, knowledge, and landscapes in order to build more resilient Mediterranean regions.
By fostering collaboration between experts and communities, the event in Edirne marked another meaningful step towards fire-resilient landscapes, demonstrating how shared learning and cooperation can support safer, more sustainable futures across the Mediterranean.
