In the Mediterranean area, participatory governance requires testing, consolidation and integration into policy contexts. The concept is familiar, but processes to involve citizens in shaping fair and green public services are often unstructured and institutional capacity is often missing. Active engagement may not be a priority for people struggling with pressing socio-economic issues. Moreover, participatory processes must use opportunities that digital tools offer to reach previously unheard voices.
The JADEITE project brings together partners from Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, and Palestine to map, test, and consolidate participatory governance processes that connect citizens, civil society, and local authorities in shaping inclusive green transition policies. Through territorial analysis, training, and digital methods, the project helps co-create better local policies for a just green transition.
